Stayed here for the 2nd time in mid-March. Came back because I loved the atmosphere and the hosts. It was a tad more pricey this time, but I was there in the middle of Spring Break. It’s much less expensive at other times of the year.
The pool scene is very relaxed. I’m a big guy, but felt very comfortable going shirtless and met some fun people. It is clothing optional, but I was just as much at ease w/my clothes on as were the people sunbathing in the altogether.
The rooms are good sized and have a nice tropical feel. It sits about a half block off Duval and is very near the “gay end” of the street. Breakfast is always good and the happy hour gives you a chance to make friends out of strangers. But the best thing Big Ruby’s has going for it are the hosts. Met Michael the first time I stayed here and made a point of going back because he made such an impression. Very courteous, helpful and friendly. All the hosts make it a pleasant stay.
Very diversified crowd when I stayed; older gay gentlemen, lesbians, men of color, wealthy gay professionals and us full figured guys. Much fun and a place I can highly recommend.

We’re just back from another wonderful winter escape. Big Ruby’s continues to delight us: great staff, lush private grounds, great pool and hot tub, the best location just off Duval, delicious hot breakfast, fun happy hour daily, and the list goes on. We’re already figuring out our dates for next year’s visit; we know we can’t make it through a Minnesota winter without help from Big Ruby’s!
